Presidential $1 Coin Release Schedule

First issued in 2007, Presidential

Dollars are minted by the US Mint in the order that these famous Americans served as president.  Four coins are released per year.  Coins depicting the first four American Presidents were minted in 2007, including: George Washington $1 coin, John Adams $ coin, Thomas Jefferson dollar coin, and James Madison Presidential dollar coin.  It will take over a decade, or at least to the year 2016, for all of the US Presidents to be commemorated.

Presidential Dollar coins are sometimes called "golden dollars".  Although gold in color, they do not have any gold in them.  Instead they are made from a mixture of copper, zinc, manganese, and nickel.  This non-precious metals metallic combination gives the coins a somewhat golden appearance.  Presidential Dollars are official legal tender coins minted by the United States government.
